In July 2016 Hubert Algie of our office was invited to return as a tutor at the Tulane University (New Orleans, USA) and Humboldt University (Berlin, Germany) International Summer School on Alternative Dispute Resolution in Berlin, Germany.
Over the two week summer school program Mr Algie taught alongside a number of senior international academics and practitioners in the field. The key lecturer of the 2016 program was the American Supreme Court Justice Alito. He gave a series of lectures on comparative commercial law and the role of negotiation in litigation in United States.
During the first week Mr Algie assisted the American academic and mediator Ms Lela Porter Love (Cardozo School of Law) with the negotiation section of the course. The negotiation syllabus gave the students a preliminary introduction to the Harvard School approach to negotiation.
During the second week, Mr Algie assisted Israeli Academic and mediator Mr Moti Mironi (University of Haifa) during the mediation section of the course. The mediation syllabus allowed students to practice and learn a new stage of mediation each day. This week also included extracurricular seminars on arbitration, international cross cultural mediation and transformative mediation.
This is the second year Mr Algie was asked to form part of the faculty of this Summer school. He is a skilled negotiator and mediator and is looking to growing a mediation practice since becoming admitted as lawyer.
